What to do with old NiCd batteries from Electrique?

What should i do with these old batteries, they are from the rearmost compartment and are all knackered by the look of it, not taken the other battery boxes apart yet.
do these have a scrap metal value, its not a material most recyclers would take im sure.
I am in Sussex, UK
