Daughter and boyfriend just towed car back, 3 miles, against my advice, ffs.
apparently all was fine going down quite steep hill, for Lincolnshire, regenerating nicely, dabbed brakes to slow for junction then when accelerator pedal applied, limited jerking forward movement, eco guage into forbidden zone and stopped.
motor feel and smell very hot.
does this sound familiar?
Other than taking main fuses out and having a sniff, not done any diagnosis until I can get it under cover
smells expensive! motor? regen? gearbox? brakes?

Re: smells expensive! motor? regen? gearbox? brakes?
Sounds like motor. Brush problems tend to come to light when decelerating. As the brush gets shorter it can move more in the brush holder, if a brush too short it can rock badly in the holder. If its too short it can also have the copper tail in the brush contact the commutator.
Not likely to be brakes, or gearbox,
Drop cover to the brushes and visually check.
If needed I do have spare motors/ gearboxes. As well as new brush sets.

Thanks for yr help Trumps, I'll phone if when phone signal returns.
Well, I've got it under cover at last. Hole in house roof has taken priority last week
The cover over the brushes shows sign of impact damage, all looks good inside, I replaced brushes relatively recently. With wheels off ground, they struggle to go round under power, accompanied with knocks and clunks. Turn smoothly motor off in neutral.....

Diagnosis is on going. My feelings are that it is bearing troubles or CV joints. Maybe I'm just a deluded optimist I did have an undiagnosed knocking noise a few months previous
Wheels off ground they turn 20 clunks per revolution.

Isolate each side at a time and see if the noise stops. Then feel for CV or wheel bearing. Could be motor bearings. Not sure why it had a smell if its not motor related, but poor brush contact could have been a contribution to the overall experience, and a coincidence.
If motor really is a problem, I do have spares.
