Centrex.

It's all still ongoing but much slower due to work and domestic commitments.

I'm trying to solve some vehicle specific issues before I do any more work on my BMS Software.

It's all up and running anyway even in present form.

The master and slave arrangement worked fine for me on bench and in car except when the Insight was creating huge amounts of noise. I'm working on that but it's vehicle specific, and I probably could have avoided it with a more careful inter cell wiring (twisted pair etc) and by locating my master board in a more sensible screened location.

Unfortunately Greg a big contributor to the project suffered a disaster of unknown origin and his car was destroyed in a fire :(

There is a thread on here about it.

I really appreciate everyones support and interest and it's still developing, but now more slowly as it basically works, and I need to do work on my own car to remove my noise problem.

I'll be adding data logging (possibly wireless to a remote unit) etc and many more things later on. Just need another 24hours each day

I'm active on a lot of forums but a key one at present is the Insight forum where i'm trying to decode the inter module serial comms of the Oem Insight computer modules, as a prelude to faking them later and removing the BCM Battery Control module which is now redundant.

If anyone wants to chip in on the below at the Insight forum that would be good.

Got batteries at last!

Postby dillond666 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 9:58 am

I've got my batteries at last. Funny how they always seem bigger and heavier than you think! I used Sec battery and got 13 of their 160ah red top agms. That's 611kg of worry. Once I get them mounted somehow I'll make up the network cables to the correct length and start experimenting with the BMS. Still need to order a charger though (ng3).

Glad to see you used Rj11 jacks. I bought a few myself with the same intent, someday. Good luck with the 12v version. Is your schematic very much different than Peter's version?

My schematic is here

Based on Peters but with a few changes here and there. Notice the external load resistor connects to the screw terminals, I'm guessing it'll take more balancing to bring 12v 160ah into check than the smaller lithium cells.

Thank you Derek.

Does this allow the same software or is it modified for 12v as well?

The software should be broadly similar but I won't need to do the complicated bit for calculating the voltage using ADC. Peter is having to overcome the fact that the ADC reading is relative to the picaxe supply voltage so he's had to be a bit clever. I am using a regulated 5v supply so I needn't concern myself with that stuff. I included a ceramic pot to allow for hardware calibration of each slave which should avoid the scenario of having to write different software for each slave. That's the theory anyway!
When I get the finger out and start programming I'll make it all available just as Peter has kindly done.

I just got buried in many projects. In fact a big one is starting this week, so I'll be on the sidelines again, but still watching.

Discussing the BMS today with Malcolm, Steve and Charles, visiting UK BVS members.

Charles came up with a brilliant simple idea for a remote display.

My Master outputs composite standard video to a dash mounted display. I had thought about using a RF link to an in house monitor for parameters etc with a pic based desktop display.

However Charles said why not just use one of those video senders!!

Brilliant and so easy, just have a little TV on your desk and you have a copy of the master display on your TV or in the corner of your PC desktop if you have a PC tuner card.

I've still got another month or so before I get back to the Master in earnest, as I need my spare car up and running before I take my PHEV off the road to move the cells and do the mods to layout etc to get rid of interference.

Hi, I've not posted in this great thread for a while, great progress. Perhaps in has not been mentioned yet, there seems to be another version inspired by your BMS floating around. It's a Honda HR-V project from Lithuania, details here:
